"I wanted a fantasy that felt timeless, not familiar."
Mohamed L. Masry is an Egyptian novelist, filmmaker, and creator of The Crowndom of Sands, an epic fantasy saga, years in the making.
Drawn to history, mythology, and the civilizations that flourished along the ancient world, he set out to create a fantasy that feels timeless rather than familiar. The result is The Crowndom: a world shaped by kingdoms, faiths, forgotten languages, and histories that stretch far beyond the page.
His storytelling is driven by a love of intricate world building, morally complex characters, and the belief that the greatest conflicts are often fought within the human heart. Before turning to novels, Mohamed studied filmmaking and worked across several industries, experiences that continue to shape his visual approach to storytelling.
A Birth on a Moonless Night is the first novel in The Crowndom of Sands, a long-form saga that follows generations of rulers, warriors, and ordinary people whose choices echo across centuries.
Mohamed lives and writes in Cairo, where he is currently working on the next instalment of the series.
