Anin, with his son Sham, is among the only confirmed survivors of the Sand Flood that ends the First Age of the Mehireen. From Sham's line comes Nordan, Anin's grandson.
Nordan, also called Samasar, builds his house on the Rassalyam cliff and names the city below it Shama. His twelve sons found the first Bloodbounds, the origin of Dar Samasar and its sworn houses.
Centuries later, the dark rule of Nemiro Marawanji rises from the Westlands of the Descent. Dar Marawanji governs by blood-rite and tribal law, the age against which Mehir the Unifier will rise.
Mehir the Unifier defeats the sorcerer king Nemiro and binds the Dozen Kingdoms under one crown, one faith, one tongue. He later bans the Sand Reckoning, the old practice of settling disputes through single combat.

Told by his father that a Tag must first learn before he can rule, Salar ventures out as a young man. Over more than seven sunrounds he conquers the seven stages of the Self, crosses through portals into other realms, and encounters the Galallions across different times, gathering the knowledge that will one day fill the Pentalogue. Lost and near his end, he is found and saved by the Jud, who complete his teaching. He returns home changed.

Salar summons the Azz, who raise Salarad, the most advanced city in the world, in the volcanic Wastelands of Ġaihaban in the Descent.
Salar sets down the five Books of Salar, chief among them The Fold and the Untold, which speaks of the Jibt, Nakier, the Banol, the Azz, and the Galallions. He then banishes the Azz and hides the books. He becomes known ever after as Salar the Pious.
The house of medicine and alchemy rises in Ġariqa under Dar Hani Wud.
Begins under Tag Ahar Ben Ħameed "the Prudent." Remembered as the Forty-Year Grief.
Vedar Ben Fa₭r, founder of Dar Fa₭ier, corrupts his ancestor Salar's writings, revives Jibt, kills his brother, and founds the Ħith, declaring Salarad independent.
Tag Sadaq and the Jud Knights destroy Vedar's stronghold, coming without warning and striking the towers of Salarad to ash with swords of light. The city is buried, the Barrier raised, the Sentry established to guard it forever after. The Crown passes to Dar Saqruhan.
Qehar the Desecrator of Dar Fa₭ier conquers Mehirea with Salman Al Mansour. The conquered are marched in shackles along the Trail of Blood into the Groove of the Desecrator, a trench Qehar's own prisoners were forced to dig, and burned. Unitarian worship is banned and the Criterion burned. The realm splits into the Ascent and the Descent.
Salman Al Mansour conquers Safa, kills Dar Safwan, and renames Safa Mansoureya.
Samy Samasar spends eight sunrounds travelling and training in Assuwa.

Bashar Ben Qehar, Hidar's father, enters Salarad in search of what lies beneath it, and is never seen again. His blade is lost with him.
The Pact of Sand and Blood, signed at Redanea by Samy Samasar with the young Tag Hidar Ben Bashar Ben Qehar Fa₭ier and his vizier Irfan Ben Zidan Ben Salman Al Mansour, a young Ħafez Samasar also present. Darasilm, the Dome of Peace, is built on the ground where the final battle was fought, its door inscribed with a verse from the Criterion: "Itha malo lassilm fasliħ," if they incline towards peace, then make peace.
