Emir — Commander. Household guard orders (the Selaħdars) include the Gundartag, the Ansar, and the Harshmeer, each bound to specific Dars or the crown itself. Ħamy Samasar holds the dual role of Emir of Selaħdar and commander of the Gundartag.
Once the old way of settling any dispute — land, honour, everything — through single combat. Mehir the Unifier banned it; today it survives only as sport, in tournaments like the Warriors of the Sands.
The Warriors of the Sands tournament (see Chapter 6) brings fighters from across and beyond the Crowndom: the Anbat Tenters, the Barza₭ins, the Nada Wanderers, the Cavers of Bany Basir, and the Ashenwolves — see Peoples for each culture's fighting style.
